The Cobendent Premise
Cobendent is a term used to describe the tuning and multiple bender arrangement on a guitar. Like a pedal steel players copedent, it is expressed in the form of a table or chart. The word is a portmanteau to describe when a guitar player is using multiple string benders: Cobendent = “chord bender arrangement.”

Below you will find links to the cobendent of several bender players that utilize multiple devices. (Please remember, the 3Bender uses a single actuator/strap lever to bend 3 strings. All other devices mentioned require the use of an actuator to bend each individual string.) To help explain the information logged into the cobendent charts, we have started a list of manufacturers and categorized them into types of actuators. If you want to submit a cobendent or have suggestions to help us organize this info, please feel free to contact us at info@3bender.com.
Our goals are:

-
To properly identify the nomenclature that string benders use.
-
To properly identify for the historical record all means of mechanical string bending that are associated with 6 string guitars. (I am using “6 string guitar” as a general term.; a string bender could be applied to 7 or 8 string guitar.)
-
To properly document for the historical record, the cobendents used by artist, in general, and/or on a specific song.
-
To inspire string bending creativity; especially related to alternate tunings, new string pitch changes, chord construction and chordal bending.
-
To improve the way we communicate this form of music.
-
To document the varied guitar accessory devices used to bend strings on electric and acoustic guitars. Note: (The list of bender manufacturers may not be comprehensive. If your favorite bender manufacturer, assembler or designer is not listed, please let me know their name and I will consider adding them. The list of bender manufacturers is simply a compilation for historical reference only. The buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before any purchase is made from people or businesses listed below. )
